Songs of Judith

The programme Songs of Judith sheds light on a hidden tradition where woman composers and authors imagine what a revolt by women against their male oppressors would be like. Could it be done without violence? Built around a cantata devoted to the Biblical character of Judith by Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre (1665–1729), the programme explores the psychological, moral and spiritual aspects of revolution through a selection of rarely performed Baroque and modern works. In this staged concert created by conductor Aliisa Neige Barrière and director and dramaturge Aleksi Barrière, the Nordic musicians of the Hehku Collective joins forces for the first time with the Finnish Baroque Orchestra.
